Montlhy releases, be sure to follow us to stay up to dateEffective rehydration with water and electrolytes plays one of the most important roles in maintaining optimal performance required for fatigue and heat stress management. However, there is a trap! When the weather's scorching and you're feeling parched, it's tempting to chug a whole bottle of water in one go. Did you know this can hinder hydration and therefore your body's performance?
Studies have shown that being as little as 3% dehydrated could be the same as being 0.08% blood alcohol content or like working while sleep deprived, when it comes to reaction time.
In the mining industry, we are regularly exposed to high-risk tasks and the margin for error is razor-thin—small impairments in physical or cognitive function resulting from dehydration, such as fatigue, delayed reactions, or lapses in focus, can have catastrophic consequences. Undertaking work while dehydrated is putting your safety (and others) at risk, increasing the chances of work-related incidents.
Magnesium and calcium are two critical minerals responsible for muscle movement, working in partnership to ensure proper function. Calcium facilitates muscle contraction, while magnesium is essential for muscle relaxation. During physical exertion, especially in hot conditions, our bodies lose significant amounts of these minerals through sweat, resulting in deficiencies.
Caffeine can boost focus and energy, but did you know it also increases dehydration risk—especially in hot conditions? Timing, hydration, and moderation are key to staying safe and performing at your best. Find out how to balance caffeine intake without compromising hydration.
Did you know Vitamin B is essential for energy production, brain function, and reducing fatigue. Without it, your body struggles to convert food into fuel, leading to tiredness and sluggish performance. Learn more about how to improve energy and avoid the crash..
Whether it's the heat knocking your appetite around or you're too flat out to stop and eat, missing meals doesn't just leave you running on empty — it slows you down, both mentally and physically. In tough, physically demanding roles, that's a risk you just can't afford.
Just because you’re not dripping in sweat doesn’t mean you’re not losing fluid. Cold air, extra layers, and more frequent toilet trips all chip away at your hydration levels — and when you’re even mildly dehydrated, your focus, coordination and stamina take a hit. That’s a risk no one can afford in demanding environments.
Even after the drinking stops, the effects don’t. Alcohol dehydrates you, depletes key electrolytes, and impairs performance for up to 16 hours after your blood alcohol returns to zero.
